Forbes Industries has added some new carts to their collection. One of the new styles available is the Forbes “Transporter Series” Bellman Carts. These new carts are the least expensive luggage carts that Forbes Industries offers. Even though these carts are inexpensive, they are durable. What Material and Finish Options are Available for Uprights?

If you are looking for a specific look for your bellman cart, we have the solution. Bellman Cart Solutions offers bellman carts in several different types of metals. Many of these have options for the type of finish also.

For each bellman cart, the exact material and finish options will be listed on the page for that product. Here are a few of the basic choices…

For luxury bell carts, such as Architectural Brass and Forbes Birdcage and Deluxe models, you have your choice of stainless steel or solid brass.

• Stainless steel tends to be better for outdoor use, especially in beach environments. It also offers a more modern look.
• Solid brass is better for indoor environments and offers a richer and more traditional look.

Both stainless steel and solid brass carts typically come in two finishes: Satin (also called brushed) or Polished.

If you are concerned about the need to clean your carts regularly and fingerprints showing, we suggest the satin (or brushed) finish.

For a more moderately priced cart, Glaro Bellman Carts offer an aluminum tubing with a satin aluminum or satin brass finish. Also, please feel free to contact us regarding the 27 designer colors that are available.

The rest of the carts we offer come in a variety of materials and finishes including chrome plated, black gloss, brass tone, silver, beige, antique gold, and sierra brown.

Which Bellman Carts are best for outdoor use?

Many of our customers are concerned about how well their bellman carts will hold up in outdoor conditions. Have you owned a bellman cart that has rusted? Did the carpet or uprights start deteriorating? Do you have a unique outdoor condition or need? Whatever the situation, we have your solution!

Here are some tips to selecting a bellman cart for outdoor use:

• Most all of our bellman carts are expected to work well for occasional outdoor use. So if you are just occasionally going outdoors with your cart, feel free to choose any cart we have available.
• If you will be using your cart outside on a regular basis, the first consideration should be the metal used for the uprights.

Our experience has shown that brass metals and finishes do not hold up well with significant outdoor use. Therefore, we recommend going with a stainless steel finish, which is available from several of our manufacturers. Also, the satin aluminum finish by Glaro seems to hold up well and tends to be the best value.

• For the ultimate in water-proof carts, please check out the Forbes #2432 Bellman Cart.  This cart features stainless steel uprights and a stainless steel deck, as opposed to a carpet and wood deck.  The Forbes #2432 is the BEST solution for extreme conditions.

One of the first questions usually asked by our customers is: How long will it be before we receive our Bellman’s Cart?  All of the manufacturers that we work with have different lead-times.  The lead-times below are typically pretty accurate.  Here are the current Bellman’s Cart lead-times per manufacturer.

Bellman’s Cart Lead-Times:

• Monarch Carts – 2–3 business days
• CSL – 3–5 business days
• Ex-Cell Kaiser LLC – 3–5 business days (for most carts)
• Glaro Inc. – 3-5 business days
• Lavi Industries – 2–3 weeks
• Forbes Industries – 3–4 weeks (for most carts)
• Harloff by Forbes – 3–4 weeks
• Architectural Brass – 4–6 weeks

Forbes Bellman Carts

We talked with Michael Hewitt V.P. of Sales about what was new with Forbes Industries.  They are now offering diamond textured uprights on some of their Bellman Carts in a polished or satin stainless steel finish.  See #2499DT & #2543DT.

Also new is a rubberized deck.  It’s a great idea!  It lasts longer than carpet, it’s easier to clean, and will hold luggage on the carts better than carpet.  It has a bit of grip to it also.  This new deck can be ordered on any Forbes Bellman Cart that comes standard with a skirt around the deck.  We’ll be adding the rubberized deck option to our website soon.

Forbes Housekeeping Carts

We spent most of the time talking with Michael about Forbes Housekeeping Carts.  Since we are currently building Housekeeping Cart Solutions, we wanted to learn all we could about them.  Forbes offers steel and plastic Housekeeping Carts that are available with MANY different options.  A cool thing that Forbes is offering is motorized Housekeeping Carts.  As heavy as those carts can be when filled, I’m sure the motorized carts make it much easier on housekeepers.  With prices starting at about $400 and going up to $3,000+, you’ll definitely be able to find the housekeeping cart that meets your needs and price range.

Well, we’re back from the 2008 International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show in NYC.  We really enjoyed the show.  It was our first trip to the IHMRS Show.  We were there most of the day Sunday, the first day the exhibits were open.  Over half the floor was dedicated to furnishings and equipment.  That’s where we spent most of our time.  We didn’t spend much time on the food and beverage side of the floor.

Not technically a “Utility Cart”, the Glaro 6440 can definitely be used as a Utility Cart.  With two removable shelves and eight side containment rails (four removable), the Glaro High Roller Condo Carts are like Utility Carts on steroids!  If you need to use it like a Bellman Cart, remove the shelves and side containment rails on one side and you’re ready to go.

Glaro 5440 Value Condo Cart (more info)

Similar to the Glaro 6440 above, the Glaro 5440 Value is great as a Utility Cart and Bellman Cart.  The differences between the Value and High Roller Condo Carts are that the Value Condo Carts have one removable shelf instead of two and six side containment rails (three removable) instead of eight side rails.

Most of the Bellman Carts and Utility Carts that we sell at Bellman Cart Solutions come with Solid or Pneumatic Tires.  The exceptions are:

• Some Forbes Industries Bell Carts come with soft rubber Cushion Wheels
• Harloff by Forbes Carts do not have a Pneumatic Tire option
• Monarch Hotel Carts come only with Solid Wheels, no Pneumatic option
• Crown Industries Bellcarts come only with Pneumatic Tires

So…Pneumatic or Solid?

Here are the pro’s and cons of each.

Pros for Pneumatic Tires / Cons for Solid Wheels:

• Pneumatic Tires are quieter than Solid
• Softer, smoother ride than solid

Cons for Pneumatic Tires / Pros for Solid Wheels:

• Some customers have said that Carts with Pneumatic Tires can be harder to maneuver because of the tire being wider than a Solid Wheel
• Pneumatic Tires can squat when large amounts of luggage are being transported, making it more difficult to push or pull
• Pneumatic Tires may require some occasional maintenance, Solid Wheels generally do not require maintenance
• Solid Wheels are less expensive to replace than Pneumatic Tires when the time comes
